About Vern

Hi, I’m Vern Eastley. I’ve worked as a software engineer for the past 35 years. I’ve devoted my entire professional life to designing and building software to put unheard-of power into the hands of non-technical people.

Let me be clear: I am not a lawyer. So why focus my AI consulting on the legal profession? Law has long held a fascination for me. As I began using ChatGPT in both business and programming for my app development firm, I continually thought of law as the field that stands to benefit the most from AI.

I’ve taken part in three major advancements in computer usability and power: the graphical user interface, the internet, and the smartphone. Each of these inventions placed powerful new capabilities into the hands of many more people. So where does AI fit into the puzzle?

I am convinced that AI represents a far more profound leap than any previous computing technology. It’s an advancement on the level of fire or the wheel. Steve Jobs famously called the computer a “bicycle for the mind”. Today’s AI is like a private jet for the mind.

The AI tech all over the news today, known as Large Language Models (LLM), brings two revolutionary capabilities: a conversational interface, and the ability to reason using a vast library of human knowledge. Traditionally the user interface has been the limiting factor in software usability; now you can simply have a conversation with the software. And instead of laboriously programming rigid algorithms, the AI can figure out how reason about your question and devise an insightful response, all on its own.

I look forward to helping you and your firm along the journey of learning, applying and getting ahead of the opportunities AI presents.
